It is strongly recommended that you obtain product liability insurance for your new business venture, if you are Private Labeling your cosmetics under your own company brand name.

Different countries have different legislation - so please ensure you seek independent advise on what will suit your business needs best.

The way you store, ship and transport your cosmetics, the way you market and label your cosmetics, the terminology, performance claims, warnings and other literature you compile, to accompany your products - may open you and your business to legal disputes by consumers. It is therefore strongly advised that you obtain Product Liability Insurance for your range.

It is however a fact, that if you are placing your brand name on a product, you in effect take on the responsibility of the manufacturing party.

Business Risk Management

Please do not risk your business and livelihood. The cosmetic industry is extremely litigated and should not be entered into without solid and sound business risk management strategies well in place - and your own Product Liability Cover, is the absolute first and critical step.

Policy Providers

Companies which are well versed in the Cosmetic Industry include Allianz. We have found that other providers are not a) willing to cover, or b) not well versed in the Cosmetic Industry and often have provided inaccurate information to our clients about how their cosmetics should be presented and labeled, and marked.

We have also learnt over the years that cheap insurance policies offered by underwriters located in offshore "island" locations have enormous legal implications if and when a claim is being made. They simply 'vanish' or do not pay. Please note this is not intended as advice, but we wish to share the knowledge with you - so you can make the right decision for your own business.
